Phillips Global was formed following the acquisition of Phillips Machine Service, a company founded in 1976 by Jack and Jim Phillips. With a strong foundation in providing comprehensive services for mining equipment, the company began by specializing in repairs and remanufacturing. Over time, it expanded into new equipment manufacturing and developed a presence in global markets.
In 2014, The Baughan Group acquired Phillips Machine Service, a move that marked a significant milestone in the company’s evolution. This strategic acquisition further strengthened their leadership in the mining equipment industry and laid the groundwork for the formation of Phillips Global, a company committed to innovation, quality, and global service.
Phillips Machine Service began in 1976 with a focus on providing "24-hour service" for mining equipment in Beckley, West Virginia. Their initial services included rebuilding continuous miners, roof bolters, scoops, and feeder breakers, as well as remanufacturing shuttle cars.
Over time, Phillips Machine Service expanded its capabilities to include repair and remanufacturing of cutter drums, sales of used equipment, and eventually, the development of new OEM products. We also expanded our operations internationally, opening facilities in China and South Africa.
In 2014, The Baughan Group acquired Phillips Machine Service. This acquisition combined Phillips Machine Service's expertise in mining equipment with The Baughan Group's capabilities in precision gearing, shafting, and replacement parts, creating a more comprehensive offering for the mining industry.
The Baughan Group's acquisition led to the formation of Phillips Global, which encompasses the combined strengths of the acquired companies, including Phillips Machine Service, Coal Age (now CAI Industries), and RiJa Machine.
Phillips Global continues to focus on providing a wide range of services for the mining industry, including new OEM equipment, machine rebuilds and refurbishments, replacement parts, service exchange components, gear manufacturing, and support for the international underground mining community. We are also involved in the development of new technologies and solutions for the mining sector.
